Dear
Fellow Laborers,
June 2009
Praise the Lord for the exciting things that are happening in Russia!
American Football in Russia
Opportunities to witness sometimes come in very unexpected forms. In St. Petersburg, we used English classes with some measure of success to break the ice, build relationships, and witness to people. In Samara, American football was probably the last thing in the world that I ever expected to use as a tool to share the Gospel. American Football is known here, but I have never heard of anyone actually playing. Last year you might remember that I wrote about Kim who is a college student that I led to the Lord. He had stopped answering his phone about a month before we came to America on furlough, but just recently got back in touch with me. It seems that there was a large group of his friends that watched the 2009 Super Bowl, and they all got very excited about playing. They started gathering to play but quickly realized they did not have a lot of experience. Kim called me to see if I would like to coach them. I went to see what it would be like and there are 25-30 college men interested in forming a team, with others coming when they can. They practice twice a week, and want to play other teams in Russia. I consider this to be an opportunity to make inroads with people for the Gospel. Please pray that people will be saved from this endeavor.
Final Plans for Permit Finally Turned In
After about a month and a week of dragging her feet, our architect finally turned in our plans for approval, so that we can get the building permit that we need. This means that the earliest we can expect the permit is the end of this month. Please pray with us that the permit will come in a timely manner. We have made some progress on finding a cheaper deal for the foundation that would hopefully allow us to build the walls this year as well. We will need to connect to electricity before construction can begin. Please pray that we will find people that can help us with this for a good price.
Updated Web Site
We have updated the web site with current family pictures and made many other changes as well. We invite you to take a look.
Yours
in Christ,
